Forest for the trees

At first appearing as a familiar space, the installation of Forest for the trees is a video of an aquarium. Participants enter the space between the projector and aquarium video, casting an image of their own bodies on the video projection, and interacting with visitors at the aquarium.

A multilayered ecosystem is created, comprised of projected shadows of participants, silhouettes of visitors at the aquarium and a fish habitat. Paradoxically, fish are set apart behind glass, yet the reach of this ecosystem is beyond the glass, beyond the video surface on the wall. Instead of a world of subjects and objects, the ecosystem is composed of various materialities engaged in a network of relations.
